Question 1

🍰 How do I make this pumpkin bars recipe from scratch?

Accepted Answer

🥣 You whisk the dry ingredients in one bowl and the oil, eggs, sugars, maple syrup, pumpkin, and vanilla in another. You combine the mixtures, spread the batter in a 10x15-inch pan, bake for 28 to 35 minutes, cool it completely, and add cream cheese frosting.

Question 2

🎃 Why does this recipe use vegetable oil instead of butter?

Accepted Answer

🥄 Vegetable oil keeps the bars soft and moist after cooling, while butter can create a firmer, cakier texture. Oil also helps these moist pumpkin bars from scratch stay tender after refrigeration.

Question 3

🧀 Why do I need brick cream cheese for pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting?

Accepted Answer

🥛 Brick cream cheese contains less water than tub spread, so it creates a thicker frosting that stays on the bars. Tub spread can make the frosting loose and difficult to spread.

Question 4

🔥 Why does the pan size matter?

Accepted Answer

📏 A 10x15-inch pan creates thin, sturdy bars with the intended texture. A 9x13-inch pan creates thicker bars and may need five to ten extra minutes of baking.

Question 5

🍂 Can I make these fall dessert bars ahead of time?

Accepted Answer

✅ You can bake and frost the bars a day before serving. You should refrigerate the covered pan and slice the bars after the frosting sets.

Question 6

🍁 How do I keep the frosting from becoming runny?

Accepted Answer

🥄 You should use brick cream cheese, softened butter, and a fully cooled cake. You can chill the frosting for 15 minutes and add more confectioners' sugar if needed.
