Ingredients

  • 36 OREO cookies ((see notes))
  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese ((softened))
  • 8 ounces white chocolate melting wafers
  • 1 teaspoon black decorator icing
  • Orange sprinkles or orange decorator icing
  • mini OREO cookies

Equipment

  • Cookie scoop
  • Food processor
  • Wax paper or parchment paper

Method

  1. Crush the Oreos
Place the entire package of Oreos, including the cream filling, in a food processor. Pulse until the cookies turn into fine crumbs. A few small chunks are fine if you prefer a little extra texture in your snowmen truffles.
  2. Mix in the Cream Cheese
Add the softened cream cheese to the Oreo crumbs and pulse until the mixture comes together into a thick dough. It should resemble wet sand and hold together when pressed.
If you do not have a food processor, transfer the crumbs to a mixing bowl and mash them together with the cream cheese using a sturdy fork until evenly combined.
  3. Roll the Balls
Scoop about 1 tablespoon of the mixture at a time and roll it between your palms to form a ball. Place each ball on a baking sheet lined with wax paper. You should get approximately 24 balls.
Do not worry if the balls are not perfectly round. A slightly uneven shape works perfectly for these cute little snowmen!
  4. Chill the Balls
Place the baking sheet in the freezer for 15 minutes or refrigerate the balls for 30 minutes until firm. Do not skip this step. Chilling helps the balls hold their shape during dipping and prevents them from falling apart in the melted chocolate.
  5. Melt the White Chocolate
Place the white candy melts or white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval until the chocolate is almost completely melted. Then stir until smooth. If the chocolate becomes too thick or seizes, add 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil and stir well to help achieve a smoother consistency.
  6. Dip the Balls
Drop one chilled Oreo ball into the melted white chocolate. Use a fork to gently roll it around until completely coated, then lift it out and tap the fork against the edge of the bowl to remove any excess chocolate.
Carefully transfer the coated ball back to the wax-paper-lined baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining balls, reheating the chocolate for about 10 seconds whenever it becomes too thick to work with comfortably.
  7. Decorate the Snowmen
While the white chocolate coating is still wet, gently press two mini chocolate chips into the upper part of each ball to create the eyes. Add three more mini chocolate chips down the front for the buttons, then use an orange candy melt or a Tic Tac to make the nose.
Work quickly so the decorations stick before the coating sets. If the chocolate hardens too soon, dab a little melted chocolate onto the back of each decoration to use as edible glue.
  8. Add the Smile
Once the white chocolate coating has completely set, place the snowmen in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes if needed. Use black decorating icing to draw a small smile just below each snowman's nose.
  9. Chill Before Serving
Return the decorated snowmen to the refrigerator and chill for at least 15 minutes, or until fully set. These Oreo snowmen truffles taste best served cold, when the creamy centers are firm and the white chocolate coating is completely set.

Recipe Notes

Top Hat Version

To give your Oreo snowmen a festive top hat, melt a small amount of dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Cut the pointed tip off a Hershey’s Kiss, then dip the flat cut end into the melted dark chocolate. Place it onto the flat side of an unmelted dark chocolate wafer to form the hat. Hold the two pieces together until the chocolate sets enough to secure them.
Using a toothpick, dab a small amount of melted white chocolate onto the bottom of the assembled top hat. Place it on top of the snowman's head and hold it in place for about 20 seconds, or until securely attached.

Oreos

You will need approximately one package of Oreos for this recipe. You can use the cookies with the cream filling intact, but if you prefer a less rich truffle, remove the filling from about 15 cookies before crushing them. The filling adds extra sweetness and creaminess, so adjust according to your preference.

Storage Instructions

For the best results, store the Oreo snowmen in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. You can also freeze them in an airtight, freezer-safe container for up to 2 months. If frozen, let them thaw in the refrigerator before serving.
