Ingredients

  • 2 cans cut green beans, drained 15-ounce
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup 10.5-ounce
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 can French fried onions, divided 2.8-ounce
  • salt and pepper to taste

Equipment

  • 1.5-quart casserole dish
  • Can opener
  • Measuring cup
  • Strainer
  • Spoon

Method

  1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Make sure the oven is fully preheated before baking so the casserole heats evenly and develops the right consistency.
  2. Mix the Casserole Ingredients
In a 1.5-quart casserole dish, combine the green beans, condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk, and half of the French-fried onions. Stir gently until the green beans are evenly coated in the creamy mixture, taking care not to break them apart.
  3. Bake Until Bubbly
Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for about 25 minutes, or until the mixture is hot and bubbling around the edges.
  4. Add the Crispy Onion Topping
Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the remaining French-fried onions evenly over the top. Return the dish to the oven and bake for another 5 minutes, until the onions are golden brown and crispy.
Keep a close eye on the topping during this final step, as fried onions can brown quickly.
  5. Season and Serve
Remove the casserole from the oven and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving so the creamy filling can settle slightly. Serve warm while the onion topping is still crisp.
